location

Architecture and history

The museum was opened on April 21, 2013 in the buildings of the former Schönebeck gas and electricity works. It is operated by the association industrieMUseum Schönebeck eV - Erlebniswelt technology and innovation ( iMUSEt ). One focus of the exhibition is the history of the regional industrial companies Allendorff, Dümling, Hermania , Sellier & Bellot , Siegel , Dr. Tolberg, Schönebeck tractor works , Wankel and Weltrad.

The museum uses the historic engine house of the plant, built in Art Nouveau style in 1908, as well as the works engineer's home that was built at the same time to the north. A little to the east is the director's villa, built in 1901. To the west is the transformer building with control room, which was built around 1952. The machine house has a large ceiling height and an open second floor. The facade of the building is structured with embossed sandstone pilaster strips . The decorations include capitals with volutes , fluted volute brackets and triglyphs . The middle part of the south and east facade is each provided with a large round arch that protrudes into the roof area and is spanned by the cornice . The building was originally covered by a domed zinc roof . There is a flat hipped skylight. In the director’s villa, there is an Art Nouveau style inventory such as paneling, windows and bathroom.

In the time of the GDR , the complex initially served as a substation for VEB Energieversorgung , and later as a warehouse.

Due to an emergency renovation, the museum was closed until May 13, 2017.

In the local register of monuments , the power station is listed as a monument under registration number 094 60878 . In the past, the address of the building was Karl-Marx-Straße 18 .
