Industry is a small city in Austin County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America with just over 300 inhabitants.
history
The place is the oldest permanently populated by Germans in Texas. In 1831, Johann Friedrich Ernst , who came from Germany, settled with his family in what is now Industry. In addition to orchards, tobacco growing became the main source of income for the settlers, who processed the tobacco into cigars and sold them in the surrounding cities such as Houston or Galveston . In 1838 the place received a post office, and from the following year Ernst parceled out part of his land in order to sell the land to settlers. The Teutonia Order was founded in Industry in 1841 . In the 1850s, cotton growing became the main source of income in the area and dominated the economic structure of the area until the 1950s. Numerous German immigrants settled in Industry between 1850 and 1890 , and the town's population grew until the mid-1920s. The population has been declining since the late 1920s. In 1985 around 600 people lived in the village, in 1990 there were 475 and since the beginning of the 2000s the number of inhabitants has stagnated at a little over 300.
