The Infantry Division Bärwalde was a German Infantry Division of the Army in World War II , based in Gross-Born in the Military District II .

Division history

The division was set up as a "Gneisenau unit" on January 20, 1945 near Bärwalde in Pomerania to occupy the Pomeranian position on the Eastern Front . For this purpose, units available in the vicinity from training facilities of the Wehrmacht (including the Artillery School I from Gross-Born), remnants of other units, alarm and Volkssturm units were quickly brought together.

The division was part of the provisional corps group of Tettau together with the Pommerland infantry division . At the beginning of the division's front service, the von Tettau corps group was assigned to the 11th SS Panzer Army , and from March to the 3rd Panzer Army .

The association fought for the Dievenow bridgehead and was disbanded on March 12, 1945 after it had previously been severely decimated in battles with the Red Army .
