The Mae Nam Ing ( Thai : แม่น้ำ อิง ), or just Ing , is a tributary of the Mekong in northern Thailand .
It rises in the Phi Pan Nam Mountains and flows through Phayao Lake at Phayao . The Ing is about 300 km long and forms an intertwined river that can flow in different river beds depending on the season . During the rainy season , which runs from May to October, the Ing carries plenty of water and many species of fish come from the Mekong to spawn . The nearby and often flooded rainforests are ideal for this. With the onset of the dry seasons, the fish return to the Mekong. This way of life has also influenced that of the people on the Ing, who are busy fishing. They use hundreds of small ponds in which they lure and catch the fish.
