Inge Clement

Inge Clement (born June 26, 1977 in Ostend ) is a former Belgian judoka . She won two gold medals at European championships.

Athletic career

Inge Clement fought mostly in the weight class up to 56 kilograms until 1996 . In 1992 she was second in the European Junior Championships, and in 1993 she won the title. In 1994 she won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships and 14 days later she won bronze at the Junior European Championships. The following year she finished seventh at the European Championships in the adult class. In 1996 she won her first Belgian championship title.

Then switched to half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 1997 she finished second in this weight class behind Nicole Flagothier at the Belgian championships. A week later she won the World Masters in Munich. Three months later, the 1997 European Championships took place in Clement's hometown of Ostend . She defeated the Italian Giuseppina Macrì in the second round , the Swiss Isabelle Schmutz in the quarter-finals and the Spanish Almudena Muñoz in the semifinals . She won the European title with a final victory over Belarusian Alena Karytskaya .

In 1998 she won the Belgian championship title. At the European Championships in Oviedo in 1998 , she finished seventh. In 1999 she did not take part in the European Championships, at the World Championships she was eliminated in her first fight against Alena Karytskaya. In 2000 she won the Belgian championship title. At the European Championships in Wroclaw , she took seventh place. In September she lost to the Algerian Salima Souakri in her opening match at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney .

In 2001 she won the Masters tournament in Munich for the second time and the Belgian championship title two weeks later. At the European Championships in Paris she defeated the French Laëtitia Tignola in the quarter -finals, the Romanian Ioana Maria Aluaș in the semifinals and the Swiss Isabelle Schmutz in the final. At the World Championships in Munich , she was eliminated in her first fight against South Korean Lee Eun-hee . In 2002 Clement won her fifth and final Belgian championship title.
