Ingo Knillmann

Ingo Knillmann (* 1963 ) is a German basketball player .

career

Knillmann came into contact with basketball as a teenager at the Johann-Rist-Gymnasium in Wedel and then played at SC Rist Wedel under coach Ewald Schauer . In 1979 and 1980 the 1.95 meter tall indoor player with a wedge was the German B-youth champion, in 1978 he was German runner-up with the C-youth and 1981 with the A-youth. With the school selection of the Johann-Rist-Gymnasium, he won the national competition " Youth trains for the Olympics " seven times .

From the age of 14, Knillmann also played in the Wedel men's team. In 1983 he turned down offers from the Bundesliga club DTV Charlottenburg and SSV Hagen , and in the 1983/84 season he played in the 2nd Bundesliga basketball team during his military service for OSC Bremerhaven . After a long injury break as a result of a shin operation, he was back in the team of SC Rist Wedel from 1985 (meanwhile also 2nd Bundesliga). In 1988 he reached the semifinals of the DBB Cup with Wedel as a second division team , in 1988 and 1991 he was runner-up with the team in the 2nd Bundesliga. After relegation to the Regionalliga in the meantime, Knillmann returned to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1994 with Wedel, where he played until 1998.

In the 35+ age group, Knillmann and Rist Wedel became German champions four times and once in the 45+ age group.

National team

In 1977 Knillmann made the leap into the German national youth team, where the left-hander was the team's captain. He participated with the FRG youth selection in 1979 at the European Cadet Championship, in 1981 he played at the Albert Schweitzer Tournament for the FRG, in 1982 he was part of the German squad for the Junior European Championship and 1983 for the Junior World Championship. At the Junior European Championships '82 Knillmann achieved an average of 8 points per match and was thus the fifth best German scorer behind Detlef Schrempf , Gunther Behnke , Christian Welp and Ralf Risse .
