Ingo Pickenäcker (born April 7, 1962 in Essen ) is a former German football player .

Player career

Pickenäcker began playing football at SC Phönix Essen and in 1976 moved to Rot-Weiss Essen in his hometown . In 1980 he moved up to the professional squad of RWE, which competed in the 2nd Bundesliga . He soon came to regular appearances and played 44 times in the second division until 1982. Then the defender, who was also used as a libero, went to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga . Here, however, he could not assert himself. In the first season he played eight Bundesliga games. In 1984 Mönchengladbach reached the DFB Cup final. Pickenäcker was not used in the league or in the cup this season. So he left the club again and went to VfL Bochum , which also competed in the Bundesliga. Here he was able to play more times, although he wasn't always seeded in Bochum either. After just one season he signed a contract with the second division club Rot-Weiß Oberhausen . Ingo Pickenäcker was now the leading player in a team that mostly played in the lower half of the table in the 2nd division. In 1988, Oberhausen's license was withdrawn, which meant a descent into the Oberliga Nordrhein . But he stayed in the second division by following his last trainer at RWO, Hans-Werner Moors , after the start of the season and moving to VfL Osnabrück . Here he was only able to play 22 games in two years due to injuries.

In 1990 he returned to Rot-Weiss Essen , where he initially met Moors again as a coach. In 1991 RWE's license was withdrawn, so that Pickenäcker and his team had to compete in the Oberliga Nordrhein . The return to professional football was not possible until 1993, after winning the German amateur championship as runner-up the previous year . In 1993/94, Essen reached the DFB Cup final, in which Werder Bremen lost 1: 3 goals. In this game, Pickenäcker had to be replaced in the first half due to injury. At the same time Pickenäcker experienced the third license withdrawal of his career and the second for Essen after 1991. The club from the Ruhr area was again third class and entered the newly founded Regionalliga West / Südwest in the 1994/95 season . In 1996/97 he played again with his club in the 2nd division. This was followed, however, by the crash up to the fourth division (Oberliga Nordrhein). After returning to the Regionalliga in 1999, he ended his career.

In the following years he played for the old men teams of Rot-Weiss Essen and Schwarz-Weiß Essen and in between made a comeback as an active player for VfB Speldorf .

Manager and coach career

After Pickenäcker left Rot-Weiss Essen as a player in 1999, he became the DFB's base coach in the youth field at the beginning of the new millennium . He is also the holder of the A trainer license. On January 1, 2009, he became the sporting director at VfB Speldorf. During the winter break of the 2013/14 season, the collaboration between Pickenäcker and VfB Speldorf was ended.
