Ingo Preminger
Ingo Preminger (born February 25, 1911 in Czernowitz ; † June 7, 2006 in Pacific Palisades , Santa Monica ) was an Austrian-American literary agent and film producer .
biography
Preminger, who came from Bukowina , was the younger brother of the film director and producer Otto Preminger . Ingo Preminger grew up in Styria and Vienna, where he first Jura studied and then worked as a lawyer before with his family after the annexation of Austria emigrated to the United States.
He finally got to Hollywood through his brother, where he opened an artist agency in 1948 . His clients also included screenwriters Dalton Trumbo and Ring Lardner Jr. , two of the " Hollywood Ten " who were banned from working and jailed during the McCarthy era . Since Preminger continued to support them and provide them with work, Ring Lardner Jr. trusted him. In 1970 he wrote his screenplay for the military satire MASH , an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Richard Hooker , as executive producer. In 1970, Robert Altman directed Preminger's first production, MASH , for Preminger's production company, which was awarded the Golden Globe and the Palme d'Or and also earned Preminger an Oscar nomination for best feature film.
Despite its great success, Preminger only produced a few films, including the comedy The Last of the Cowboys with Henry Fonda and the thriller Top Secret with Barry Newman and Klaus Maria Brandauer .
