Ingrid Brekke (born June 22, 1969 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian journalist and non-fiction author .

Working life

Brekke studied philosophy and literature at the Technical and Natural Sciences University of Norway (NTNU) in her hometown of Trondheim. She then completed a one-year journalism degree in Darlington (England). In the 1990s she worked for two student newspapers, including as a culture editor.

Brekke moved to Aftenposten in 2000 , where she worked at the news desk and in the culture department. A scholarship led her to the Free University of Berlin in 2008/09 (European Journalist Fellowships). From 2010 to 2012 Brekke worked as a correspondent for Central Europe in Berlin . In the following years she lived in Berlin for some time and traveled repeatedly to Poland and Hungary.

Brekke has a half-job in the international department of Aftenposten and also works as a freelance writer and lecturer. On her website she writes on the blog “Puslespill Europa” (German: Puzzle Europe ).

Brekke made his debut in 2014 with the non-fiction book «Da øst ble vest. Livet i Europa etter communismens fall » (Then the east turned to the west. Living in Europe after the fall of communism) . Two years later she published “ Angela Merkel . Et europeisk drama » (Angela Merkel. A European Drama) the first biography of the Chancellor in Norwegian .

Brekke was awarded the Willy Brandt Prize in 2017 . She is a member of the Norwegian Non-fiction and Translators Association NFF, the Norwegian Authoring Center and the PEN Club .
