Ingrid Schneider (* 1962 ) is a German political scientist and professor at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Hamburg .

academic education

Ingrid Schneider received her diploma in political science in 1987 and her dissertation in political science in 1996 at the University of Hamburg. In 2010 she obtained her habilitation and venia legendi for political science.

Professional position

Schneider has been a professor at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Hamburg since 2014. Since 2017, she has also been working in the IT department in the ethics department in information technology.

Research and teaching activities

Since 1990 Schneider has worked as a lecturer for political science, social and health management as well as history, ethics, governance and technology assessment in Bremen and at various universities and at the Europa Kolleg in Hamburg.

From 2002 to 2016 she worked as a research assistant in the medical / neurosciences department of the research focus Biotechnology, Society and Environment (BIOGUM) at the University of Hamburg. From 2010 she was a private lecturer at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Hamburg.

Since 2013 Schneider has been a member of the European Commission's expert group "on the development and implications of patent law in biotechnology and genetic engineering". Since 2010 she has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Agency for Civic Education and, also since 2010, a member of the board of the European Association “European Policy for Intellectual Property” (EPIP).

She is a member of abida , an interdisciplinary research cluster on big data .

In 1989 she was a consultant for development policy at the Hamburg Senate Chancellery and from 1990 to 1998 an editor at the Gruner + Jahr publishing house . From 2000 to 2002 she was an expert member of the study commission “Law and Ethics of Modern Medicine” of the German Bundestag .
