The Iniciativa Verde ( Spanish for Green Initiative ) is a small Argentine party that belongs to the green parties and is a member of the Association of American Green Parties , the American sub-association of Global Greens .
history
The party was founded in 2006 by Juan Manuel Velasco , a former member of the ARI , and so far has only one provincial association in the city of Buenos Aires ( Iniciativa Verde por Buenos Aires ). In 2007, Velasco temporarily became Environment Minister in the cabinet of the Buenos Aires city government under Jorge Telerman , until the successor government to Mauricio Macri took office at the end of 2007.
Content profile
The party is primarily committed to protecting the environment . She calls for an eco-tax on fossil fuels, the withdrawal of Argentina from nuclear energy and the promotion of renewable energies , the priority promotion of local public transport over individual transport and a sustainable eco-social market economy . The military should primarily be deployed to protect the border nature reserves of Argentina from external exploitation.
In her party program she also mentions the fight against unemployment by expanding unemployment benefits, a democratic health system, a judiciary based on prevention instead of repression, the release of “ soft drugs ”, the promotion of a decentralized and independent cultural and media landscape, and the strengthening of women's rights.
In the 2009 congressional elections, she named six key issues in her election campaign program for Buenos Aires: Avoiding climate change by saving energy, recycling and avoiding waste , rehabilitation of the Riachuelo (a river that flows through Buenos Aires and is heavily polluted), improvement of local public transport, Tourism and protection of urban wildlife.
Participation in elections
The party only ran in the 2009 congressional elections in the city of Buenos Aires , where it achieved 0.45% in the parliamentary election and 0.49% in the city council election, which took place at the same time.
