Anthemis urvilleana is a plant from the family of the daisy family (Asteraceae). It is exclusively based in Malta .
description
Anthemis urvilleana is an annual, herbaceous plant with branches branched at the base, bent (rarely upright) and 1 to 20 centimeter high stems that are leafy to the top. The irregularly arranged leaves are one to two-fold pinnate and their individual sections are succulent . They are of variable shape, obovate or ovoid to almost spherical.
The hemispherical basket becomes spherical at the time of fruiting, the yellow tubular flowers are dark gray-brown. The four to eight, rarely up to ten ray-florets are irregular with larger gaps to each other, the tongues are white, the bracts are linear-lanceolate and tapering to a point.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
distribution
The species, which is exclusively native to Malta and is common there, inhabits rocky locations near the coast either at sea level or on the edges of the cliff coast. Individual plants are rare, mostly they are found in large groups, occasionally they form extensive stands.
Systematics and botanical history
The species described in 1915 by Carlo Pietro Stefano Sommier and Alfredo Caruana Gatto was at times considered a subspecies of Anthemis secundiramea . Molecular genetic studies, according to which it represents the sister taxon of Anthemis muricata , support the assumption of its independence.
