Insel is a 1973 Soviet animated short film directed by Fyodor Chitruk .

action

A man is stranded on a small island. He is waiting to be rescued, but tries in vain to make himself noticeable to the numerous passenger and transport ships. Every now and then he is discovered by a submarine, which does not want to save him either. Even when he climbs the palm tree that grows on his island, he is not seen.

After a while ships arrive at him. He is photographed by tourists, initially suspected and questioned during the search for art thieves, but dropped back on the island when the real culprit is found, he is scientifically examined, but always left alone on the island. After a while, two men come to the island, cut down the palm tree and use the wood to fire their ship, which continues without the stranded person. A little later, soldiers erect a flagpole with a flag instead of the palm tree. Eventually, an oil drilling ship appears, drilling an oil hole in the middle of the island. When it proves to be productive, the island is crowded a little later by numerous ships that are pumping out the oil. The man waits for the pumping of things that may come. When the oil is pumped out, the ships leave nothing but scrap next to a large puddle of oil around the island. The man resigned. Suddenly another man swims past him, using a branch to help. He invites him to continue swimming with him, and together they slowly disappear into the distance.
