The Institute of German Dentists ( IDZ ) is an organizationally independent research facility sponsored by the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZBV) and the German Dental Association - Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Deutschen Zahnärztekammern e. V. (BZÄK) based in Cologne.

It provides reliable, independent research results in the complex field of health research . The IDZ research projects provide scientific data and problem analyzes for the further development of the dental care structure in the healthcare system. The IDZ was founded in 1980 and conducts practice-relevant research and scientific advice within the scope of the tasks of the KZBV and BZÄK for the professional and ethical policy of dentists in Germany. The IDZ has 11 employees.

Research priorities and series

The IDZ deals with a large number of questions from the broad spectrum of topics in health care research and epidemiology, health economics and health systems research, dental professional research and medical sociology as well as health psychology. The Center for Dental Quality (ZZQ) deals with questions about quality promotion.

The results of the research work and other scientific activities of the IDZ are published in book publications (series of materials, series of brochures, special volumes). In addition, the IDZ publishes the free online journal Dentistry, Research and Supply , which appears at irregular intervals and reports briefly on current research topics. To promote national and international knowledge transfer, study results are also published in international specialist journals.

The dental examinations and surveys on health behavior are voluntary and meet the data protection requirements of the Federal Data Protection Act . The results of the study were presented to the public on August 16, 2016.
