The institut für finanzdienstleistungen eV (iff) is an independent, non-profit association based in Hamburg, which was founded in 1987 by Udo Reifner and researches and advises in the field of sustainable financial services. The institute is headed by Dr. Sally Peters (managing director). It works for government institutions as well as consumer advice centers , debt counseling centers and financial service providers . It also prepares calculations and reports for courts, small and medium-sized companies and private individuals.

The institute will u. a. by the Federal Ministries of Finance , Justice , Education and Research , for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth , and for Food and Agriculture , the General Directorate for Health and Consumer Protection and the General Directorate for the Internal Market and Consumers of the European Commission and the European Parliament with expert opinions and opinions on financial services and financial products.

  • “Study on Financial Supervision in the EU - A consumer perspective” for BEUC 2011,
  • “Study on the costs and benefits of the EU policy options for mortgage credit” in cooperation with London Economics for the European Commission 2011,
  • “Study on Equity Release Schemes in Europe” for the European Commission 2010.

The institute is a co-founder of the European Coalition for Responsible Credit (ECRC) and the European Consumer Debt Network (ECDN).

Socio-economic research

The purpose of the association is to promote and conduct research in the field of relationships between law, economy and society. The iff treats and answers sociological and economic questions in an interdisciplinary manner from different perspectives. The founder Udo Reifner taught and researched for over 30 years as a professor of business law in the Department of Social Economics at the University of Hamburg , formerly the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics (HWP). In 2012 he was offered a professorship at the University of Trento (Italy).
