The Institute for Social Work and Social Pedagogy (ISS Frankfurt a. M.) is a specialist institute in Frankfurt am Main that has existed since 1974 in the legal form of a registered association. For more than 40 years, the institute's employees have been researching and advising actors in all fields of social work. The focus is on shaping questions of social justice and participation.

With over 50 employees, the institute is a specialist institute for science-based practical advice, practical support and practical development. It works at the interface between social practice, politics and science. The ISS Frankfurt a. M. observes, analyzes, accompanies and designs development processes in social work on a national and international level and provides scientific services for ministries, municipalities, welfare associations and institutions. Important areas of work are migration , child poverty , social exclusion and disadvantage, aging society, social policy in Europe, European youth policy , right-wing extremism , civic engagement and voluntary services .

history

Founded in 1974 by the Federal Association of Workers' Welfare (AWO), the ISS Frankfurt a. M. since 1991 as a legally independent non-profit association . Its headquarters are in Frankfurt am Main , there is an office in the capital in Berlin and a project office in Bonn . The institute receives financial support from the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and the Federal Association of Workers' Welfare (AWO).

Publications

The magazine “ Migration und Soziale Arbeit ” (formerly the information service for foreigners ) is published three times a year by Juventa Verlag . The magazine “Migration und Soziale Arbeit” is a platform for the exchange and the transfer of knowledge on migration issues between specialists of different origins and professions. It regularly contains articles on immigration, integration and asylum policy, intercultural child, youth and educational work and migration-specific topics such as intercultural opening of regular social services, psychosocial care for migrants, life situation and specific problems of older migrants, racism and anti-racist strategies. Each issue appears on a thematic focus and contains project reports as well as a bibliography on topics relevant to migration and reviews of new publications. In addition to other publications for specialists in social work, the ISS in Frankfurt am Main also offers training courses and specialist conferences.
