IWiG has been a registered trademark at the German Patent and Trademark Office since January 13, 2005. The name was created in 2004 from the cooperation agreement with the Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences for the future research area of workflow management in healthcare for the description, definition, analysis and optimization of processes in of patient care .

The Institute for Workflow Management in Health Care (IWiG) is a company that is active in the field of research and development of workflow management in health care. It cooperates in the scientific field with a university and - subject to the conclusion of a cooperation agreement - performs the function of an affiliated institute of the university concerned.

IWiG deals with the investigation and development of workflow management in healthcare, especially in clinics and hospitals , taking into account the latest state of science and technology . The focus of research and development is the improvement of methods, instruments and procedures for a holistic concept for workflow management.

The goals of the cooperation between the university and IWiG are:

  • the transfer of technology to promote university-industry
  • to develop joint research activities and to apply their results in practice
  • to ensure optimal use of research facilities at the university in the long term,
  • to ensure optimal interaction between research and development tasks in the university on the one hand and routine economic work in practice on the other.

history

The institute was founded in May 2004 by Michael Greiling . The institute is based in Telgte ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The company has offices in Gelsenkirchen ( science park ), Rheine ( university ) and Telgte ( management ).

IWiG has been an affiliate of the Gelsenkirchen / Westphalian University of Applied Sciences since 2004 . Since 2015 IWiG has been an affiliated institute of the Matthias University of Rheine / praxisHochschule Köln, Rheine, Heidelberg - Dual University for Health and Social Affairs, state-recognized university of the pHfG Trägergesellschaft mbH. PHfG Trägergesellschaft mbH is part of the Klett Group in Stuttgart .

Thematic focus

The institute describes research and the development of innovative and operationally feasible procedures and methodologies around the topic of " process improvement in health care", especially for hospitals and associated service providers , as its core topic .

Due to the intensive scientific examination of the subject of workflow management in the healthcare industry, which is documented in more than 140 publications and national and international awards, the IWiG is one of the leading research institutions for clinical process management and organizational development .

Area of ​​responsibility

The universities see an important area of ​​development in the field of process-oriented research in health care. They therefore strive to strengthen this area by promoting the relevant research activities and intensifying cooperation with relevant research institutions. This is to be realized by

  • Increasing national and international awareness of the topic,
  • Implementation of joint advanced and advanced training measures,

The IWiG therefore supports hospitals in the transition from function-oriented thinking to thinking in terms of processes. The goal is to ensure the long-term success of the clinic by mastering processes. That means executing processes efficiently, without errors and in the required quality .

The institute supports healthcare facilities in optimizing their quality of care based on indicators and key figures. To this end, it develops innovative concepts, methods and strategies for the documentation, analysis and evaluation of all relevant process flows.

Health sector

The institute supports clinics through the targeted use of software-based solutions to create orientation, standardization and transparency.

On the basis of selected data, the IWiG carries out facility-related and cross-facility comparisons as part of benchmarking projects in order to identify optimization options in key areas of inpatient care.

Educational area

The institute under the direction of Michael Greiling, in cooperation with the university, offers software-based academic training with a university certificate for “Certified Workflow Manager in Health Care”.

IWiG's advanced training courses enable clinics to train their employees to become qualified process experts using the ClipMed software. You are responsible for organizing, checking and controlling the clinic's core processes .

The training courses convey methods of holistic workflow management. They give participants from various professional groups the opportunity to take on organizational tasks directly by using the innovative ClipMed software and to easily plan, optimize and sustainably establish patient processes from admission to discharge. This ensures efficient use of resources with a high level of added value and without waste.

The combination of software-based academic training as a combination of blended learning , on-the-job training and e-learning is unique . The innovative didactic concept suits the clinics and their employees when agreeing full-time jobs and further training. The training has received several awards.

Fulfillment of evaluation criteria for quality assurance

The institute's innovative method takes into account all of the criteria for holistic total quality management specified by the European Foundation for Quality Management .

Professional Process magazine

From 2008 to 2014 the IWiG published the trade journal “Professional Process”. The magazine was published every six months.

The magazine deals with the topic of process management as an answer to the increasing challenges in the health industry.

Process management is the operative driver for revenues, profits and costs. The "Professional Process" is intended to serve as a platform for introducing new process management techniques. It offers a selection of case studies and projects that explain how the improvement of nursing, medical and logistical care can be implemented and promoted.
