Integrin β-1 (synonymous CD29 ) is a surface protein and a cell adhesion molecule .

properties

Integrin β-1 binds to the amino acid sequence RGD and forms either with integrin α-1, α-2, α-10 or α-11 a heterodimeric receptor for collagen (binding sequence GFPGER). With α-2, α-3 , α-4, α-5, α-8, α-10, α-11 or α-V, it forms a heterodimeric receptor for fibronectin . With α-3 it forms a receptor for epiligrin , thrombospondin and CSPG4 . With α-4 it forms a receptor for fractalkines . With α-5 it forms a receptor for fibrinogen . With α-1, α-2, α-6 or α-7 it forms a receptor for laminin and with α-4 one for VCAM1 (binding sequence QIDS). With α-9 it forms a receptor for VCAM1, osteopontin and cytotactin (binding sequence AEIDGIEL). With α-V it forms a receptor for vitronectin . Integrin β-1 is involved in various cellular processes such as cyctokinesis and angiogenesis . It is glycosylated , phosphorylated , acetylated and has an isopeptide bond after sumoylation .
