Inter-Jurassic Assembly

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Inter-Jurassic Assembly (IJV, French Assemblée interjurassienne , AIJ) is a political body in Switzerland that was specially formed to resolve the Jurassic conflict (see also the Jura question ).

The assembly was formed in 1994 through an agreement between the Swiss Federal Council and the cantons of Bern and Jura .

tasks

The purpose of the Inter-Jurassic Assembly is to promote dialogue about the future of the Jurassic community. This dialogue takes place between the various districts and organs of the canton of Jura and the Bernese Jura as well as between the Jura people on both sides of the canton's borders . Based on this dialogue, the assembly should work out proposals for increased cooperation between the Canton of Jura and the Bernese Jura.

Specifically, the association was commissioned to conduct a study on the institutional future of the Jura region. This order was carried out on September 7, 2005 by the governments of the cantons of Bern and Jura under the aegis of the Federal Council. Work on the study began in August 2006. The contract consists of three parts:

  • a study of a new political canton structure with six districts
  • a study of the effects of direct partnership resulting from the joint inter-Jurassic institutions and the special statute of the Bernese Jura
  • a study of other options worth considering by the IJV

Results

On April 22nd, 2009 the Inter-Jurassic Assembly presented its final report. Two models are put up for discussion: A slightly changed status quo (Status quo +) or the formation of a new canton.
