Intermission is a music album released on June 26, 2001 by the Finnish band Stratovarius . It is a compilation of various songs that had previously been released as bonus tracks , B-sides and live recordings .

The title "Intermission" means, in English , a silent period and refers to the fact that the band after touring with the previous album " Infinite had announced" a long hiatus.

Origin and meaning of the songs

  • "Will My Soul Ever Rest In Peace?" And "Falling Into Fantasy" are two songs that were specially composed and recorded for the album.
  • "The Curtains Are Falling" was recorded at the same time as the "Infinite" album, but was not released there or elsewhere.
  • “Requiem” is also previously unreleased; it is a piece of music used live as a concert intro.
  • "Bloodstone," a cover version of Judas Priest , appeared on a tribute album.
  • "Kill the King" is a cover of Rainbow and also appeared on a tribute album and also as the B-side of the "Father Time" single. This song is sung by guitarist Timo Tolkki .
  • "I Surrender" is a live recorded cover version of the song by Rainbow (composed by Russ Ballard ) that was previously unreleased.
  • "Keep the Flame" was a bonus track from the Japanese edition of the "Father Time" single.
  • "Why Are We Here?" And "It's a Mystery" were released as bonus tracks on a double CD edition of "Infinite". In addition, both songs were briefly available as a 7 "single.
  • "What Can I Say" was the Japanese bonus track from the "Infinite" album.
  • "Dream With Me" was included as a bonus track on the best-of CD "The Chosen Ones" (1999).
  • "When the Night Meets the Day" was the Japan bonus track on the album "Episode".
  • "Cold Winter Nights" was a bonus track on European editions of the album " Destiny ".
  • "Hunting High and Low" was recorded on the tour for "Infinite".

Versions

The album appeared in different editions. In addition to the regular single CD, there is a digipack version with a bonus CD, which contained the following songs:

The playing time of the bonus CD is 9 min 43 s. The regular version of “Freedom” comes from the “Infinite” album, while “Neon Light Child” comes from the “Hunting High and Low” single.

There is also a version of the single CD, the 16th track containing a cover version of the Scorpions song "Blackout". This cover version comes from the 1998 single for the song "SOS".

In addition to the CDs, an LP version was also released in which the songs were distributed on two picture discs . Both records were delivered in a box together with a support for the turntable with the band logo.
