International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation
The International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation is the largest section of the ITC ( International Training Center ) in Enschede (Netherlands), a training facility for geoscientific exploration that has existed since 1950 .
The most important tasks of the institute are:
- Education and training of geoscientists and technicians in the extraction and processing of ground-related data of the Earth's surface , the atmosphere and other GIS - primary data
- Research in the field of remote sensing and geographic information
- Support for projects in this field, especially in developing countries
- through technical advice, data analysis and management .
The institute provides methods, aids and tools for researching and conserving the natural environment and its resources . It uses the following measurement and processing methods, among others:
- Satellite images , aerial photography - photogrammetry and image processing
- GPS and terrestrial survey
- Geographic information systems and cartography
- Publication of maps and data.
