International One Meter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International One Meter , shortly IOM refers to a classification in the field of radio-controlled model - sailboats used for racing purposes. This happens according to the racing rules of World Sailing , the world association of all sailing sports . The name of the class is based on the main characteristic of the boats: the hull length of one meter.

The IOM class rules lay down e.g. B. the sail size and the main dimensions of the boat ( displacement , length, draft), but there is some freedom in the hull design. The spread of this class was favored by the given, relatively inexpensive materials and materials. The use of high-tech materials is excluded (with few exceptions). The minimum weight is set at 4000 g. Likewise the draft of 420 mm. There are three clearly defined rigs.

There have been a large number of national and international competitions for years.

history

The set of rules was originally established in 1988 by the ISAF (today's name: International Radio Sailing Association, IRSA) in order to harmonize the 1-meter rules invented around the world at the time .
