agenda

According to the organizers, the International Men's Day serves to highlight the disadvantages of men and boys in the areas of health, family law, education and the media, as well as to honor their positive achievements and contribution. In recent years, seminars, school events, radio and television programs, peaceful demonstrations, debates, panel discussions and art exhibitions have been held on the occasion of International Men's Day. According to the founders, the day is not meant to compete with International Women's Day , rather it serves the purpose of bringing men's experiences to the fore. An additional leitmotif is introduced every year, for example peace in 2002 , men's health in 2003 , healing and forgiveness in 2007 and positive male role models in 2009 . Participants do not have to adopt these leitmotifs. They are free to contribute their own, which will best suit their needs and interests. In 2009, the following targets were set as the basis for the International Men's Day:

  • Promoting male role models; not just movie stars and athletes, but ordinary workers who lead decent, honest lives.
  • Celebrating men's positive contribution to society, community, family, marriage, childcare, and the environment.
  • Focus on men's health and wellbeing in social, emotional, physical and spiritual terms.
  • Highlighting discrimination against men in the areas of service, attitudes and expectations, and justice.
  • Improving the gender balance and promoting equality.
  • Creating a Safer, Better World where men are safe and able to achieve their full potential.
