International Sports Law (Motorsport)

The International Sports Act (ISG) maps the framework conditions for motorsport . The ISG of the FIA , official name International Sporting Code , defines the framework of the 17 chapters and several appendices motor sport from. It is part of the FIA rules for motor racing worldwide, unless it is organized independently of the FIA, such as NASCAR in the USA. In motorcycling the FIM defines these guidelines, in karting the CIK is responsible.

The name of the rulebook is misleading. According to German legal understanding, it is not a law in the formal sense , as it was not enacted by a sovereign.

Applicable versions

The original FIA or FIM texts are mostly available in English and / or French. The national sports authorities and associations provide the corresponding translations in the national languages. In the event of differences between the original texts and the translations, the original English or French text is ultimately always valid.

The ISG contains u. a .:

  • Definitions, general principles and provisions, e.g. B. about the vehicles and about the competitions including the record attempts with the corresponding conversions of miles and kilometers
  • Rules for measuring the racetracks , separated for permanent and non-permanent tracks
  • Organizational details for events, i.e. details that must be included in the advertisement and the program - or may not be included
  • Regulations for organizers, applicants, racing drivers , sports officials and official factual news
  • License terms
  • Sports fines , protests, appeals and procedural issues
  • the hierarchy of the national associations (in Germany DMSB , ADAC , DMV ) and their laws
  • technical regulations for the vehicles (mainly in the annexes ).

The ISG is supplemented by class-dependent and, if applicable, national regulations, for example the various penalties that can be imposed on drivers and / or teams in the context of Formula 1 events are regulated in the associated Sporting Regulations .
