Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult is the debut album by the Colombian / US metal band Inquisition . It was released by Sylphorium Records in 1998. Sound engineer John Schluckebier was responsible for the mixing, the album was produced by Dagon and Incubus together with Odin “The Old Goat” Thompson; in addition, Nelson Varela and Sylphorium Records are listed as executive producers . The album was designed by Tim Bishop, the photography by Humberto Sanchez.

Music style and lyrics
Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult is the first release in the signature style of the band, which Aceust of Hateful Metal describes as "thoroughly monotonously grim". A special feature is Dagon's monotonous, spoken style of singing, which is described in English-language reviews as croak (' croak ' with ravens and crows , ' croak ' with frogs ), which also involves comparisons with the sounds of ravens or frogs in the reviews. Dagon's guitar playing combines strong 1980-years- thrash metal conditions influencing the fate with slower, darker black metal - riffs and "brooding" acoustic interludes. The lyrics are about rituals and the worship and invocation of Satan and other gods and demons .
Reviews
Dagon's singing is both praised and ridiculed in the scene and polarizes the listener accordingly. According to Metal Storm's Lucas , Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult is "everything a Black Metal fan could possibly ask for": it's dark, blasphemous , obscure, and delivers some excellent riffs. Aceust described Inquisition's debut in his review of the successor Invoking the Majestic Throne of Satan as "the absolute high point in the Black Metal Underground" at the time of its release, for many even one of the best Black Metal releases ever, and the band itself as "One of the (or even the) grimmest, most blasphemous and most consistent Black Metal band (s) ever"; in the album Magnificent Glorification of Lucifer , he described Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult as legendary. Metal Review's Nin Chan called the album a classic.
