Inverallochy Castle

Inverallochy Castle is the ruins of a quadrangular castle at the village Inverallochy in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire . The castle ruins are about 800 meters south of Cairnbulg Castle near Fraserburgh . W. Douglas Simpson described it as one of the Nine Castles of the Knuckle because of the rocky headland in northeast Aberdeenshire on which they stand.

The remains of the buildings are arranged on three sides around an inner courtyard. A curtain wall forms the southern boundary of this courtyard . A tower on the northeast corner has largely been preserved in full; the remaining curtain wall is up to 10 meters high. Most of the interior walls have collapsed. Traces of a larger, outer courtyard are also preserved, stretching 60 meters by 60 meters to the north and east of the current ruins. The ruins are considered a Scheduled Monument . The castle seems to have been built in just one construction phase. Due to its architecture, it is dated to the beginning of the 16th century. It is possible that Sir William Comyn of Inverallochy had it built between 1512 and 1519.
