Ioannis Theofilakis
Ioannis Theofilakis (also Theophilakis , Greek Ιωάννης Θεοφιλάκης , * 1879 in Sparta ; † 1968 ) was a Greek sports shooter who took part in six Olympic Games .
Life
Theofilakis, who was born in Sparta, was a successful attorney in Athens before his Olympic debut in 1896. He and his brother Alexandros Theofilakis were passionate hunters . With his brother he also took part in all Olympic shooting competitions in pistol and rifle shooting until 1924. During the First World War , Theofilakis served in the army. From 1936 to 1940 he lived in exile on Folegandros for political reasons , as Ioannis Metaxas reigned. His great wealth was lost after World War II and the Greek Civil War , so he had to work in a small law firm until the end of his career. He died after a hunting trip and is buried in the Metamórfosi cemetery.
He married twice. With his first wife Angeliki Travarsaro he had a son: Elias Theofilakis (1928–2008). His second wife became Konstandina Rodopoulou. With her he had four daughters (Anastasia, Alexandra, Dionysia and Sofia).
