LenovoEMC (also lenovo EMC² ), formerly Iomega Corporation , is a manufacturer of removable disk drives , portable storage media and network storage solutions ( NAS ).
history
The company, headquartered in San Diego , USA, was founded in 1980. In June 2008, Iomega was acquired by EMC Corporation for $ 213 million and has been a subsidiary ever since.
In 2012, EMC and Lenovo formed a joint venture , among other things for network storage systems. Since June 2013, these are no longer offered under the Iomega brand, but as LenovoEMC.
At the beginning of the 1990s, the floppy disk lost more and more importance due to the increased data volume of programs. Iomega was looking for a suitable successor with its technologies and products for over a decade. For economic reasons, these solutions found no interest in the industry and were therefore very successfully aimed at consumers. Only with the invention of the USB memory stick did Iomega's offer disappear from the market.
Products
The most famous Iomega product was the Zip drive , a removable disk drive with initially 100 MB, later also 250 and 750 MB. In addition to the Zip drive, products such as BUZ - one of the first multimedia interface cards for video editing - and the HipZip - a portable MP3 player based on Clik! Floppy disks, the Jaz drive - one of the first removable disk drives with a capacity of up to 2 GB - and the Ditto tape drive.
LenovoEMC's product range currently includes devices for home use as well as NAS products for large companies.
