Ion "Sfinxul" Alecsandrescu (born July 17, 1928 in Copăceni , Vâlcea district , † June 21, 2000 ) was a Romanian football player and official . He played a total of 197 games in the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A .
Career as a player
Alecsandrescu began his career at Juventus Bucharest (from 1949 under the name Partizanul Bucharest ). There he came to his first assignment in Divizia A on May 25, 1950 . Since Alecsandrescu scored eight goals in his first six games, the Romanian top club CCA Bucharest (later Steaua Bucharest) got him shortly afterwards .
With CCA Bucharest Alecsandrescu was able to win the Romanian championship in 1951 , but was rarely used. He therefore switched to the newly promoted CA Câmpulung Moldovenesc . After this was able to finish the 1952 season in third place and was in first place at the halfway point of the 1953 season , the club was dissolved and the majority of the players were delegated to CCA Bucharest.
After his return, Alecsandrescu came more often to use at CCA and became a regular player. His final breakthrough as a goalscorer came in 1956 , when he not only won the Romanian championship, but also the top scorer's crown. In the subsequent European Cup , CCA retired despite a goal from Alecsandresu in the playoff against German champions Borussia Dortmund .
When Alecsandrescu was no longer used regularly in the 1961/62 season , he switched to Olympia Bucharest during the winter break and ended his career there in 1962.
National team
Alecsandrescu played a total of five games for the Romanian national football team , but could not score a goal. He made his debut on April 22, 1956 against Yugoslavia .
Career as a functionary
After the end of his active career, Alecsandrescu became General Secretary of the Romanian Football Association . He held this post until 1982 when he became vice-president of his former club Steaua Bucharest . He held this office until his death in 2000.
