Ion Ciosescu ( April 8, 1935 - February 15, 2014 ) was a Romanian football player .

Athletic career

With the beginning of his medical studies Ciosescu moved in 1954 to Știinșa Timișoara in the Divizia A , for which he scored his first goal in his debut game against Jiul Petroșani . By the end of the season he was one of the most accurate strikers in the championship, with twelve goals this season he placed in the top five of the top scorer list. In the following season, when he formed the most dangerous striker duo in the Romanian championship with Constantin Dinulescu , he was even more successful and became the top scorer of Divizia A for the first time with one more goal than his teammate. Two years later he was crowned top scorer again with 21 goals, He also won a 1-0 win over FC Progresul Bucharest through a goal by Petre Cădariu in the final of the Cupa României with the club, the first title in the club's history.

After completing his studies in 1958, Ciosescu was transferred to Constanța , where he played for Farul Constanța until 1964 . In the four years for Știința Timișoara, he had scored 67 goals in 99 league games in the top division of Romania.

Fifty years after the cup triumph with Știința Timișoara, Ciosescu was made honorary citizens of the city of Timișoara in August 2008, along with the other players who had won the title, and coach Dincă Schileru .
