Ion Dincă

Ion Dincă (born November 3, 1928 in Cobia ; † January 9, 2007 ) was a Romanian politician and army general .

Life

Ion Dincă was a trained lathe operator before embarking on an army career, during which he was appointed military advisor to the Romanian government in 1968. At the same time, he rose steeply in the Romanian Communist Party , to whose central committee he belonged from 1972 to 1989. Among other things, he was Deputy Prime Minister (1979–1989) and Mayor of Bucharest (1976–1979). During the 1989 revolution, he was one of those who encouraged President Nicolae Ceaușescu not to give in to the demonstrators.

On February 2, 1990, Dincă was sentenced to life imprisonment together with Manea Mănescu , Tudor Postelnicu and Emil Bobu , but the sentence was commuted to a 15-year prison term. He was released after five years and three months for health reasons. In the following years he worked in his son-in-law's company.
