Ion Dumitrescu (composer)

Ion Dumitrescu (born May 20, . Jul / 2. June  1913 greg. In Oteşani , county Valcea , † 6. September 1996 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian composer .

Ion Dumitrescu studied at the Bucharest Conservatory . In 1939/50 he worked as a conductor of the Bucharest National Theater and has been a professor at the Conservatory ever since. Since 1963 he was President of the Romanian Composers Union.

Dumitrescu was mainly a symphonic composer. His works are characterized by their concise themes and lively coloring. He was the brother of Gheorghe Dumitrescu .
