Ion Mincu

Ion Mincu (born December 20, 1852 in Focşani , † December 6, 1912 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian architect and politician .

Mincu obtained an engineering degree from the Romanian College of Bridge and Road Construction in 1875, studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris from 1877 to 1884, and in 1883 received the title of Architecte diplômé par le gouvernement (DPLG) .

From 1895 to 1899 he was a member of the Romanian Parliament.

Mincu was a pioneer of the New Romanian Style , a neoclassicism with romanticizing elements of traditional Romanian architecture.

Honors

In 1952 the Academy of Architecture was named after him, today Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urban Planning .
