Talitha , also Iota Ursae Majoris , ι Ursae Majoris or ι UMa ( Bayer designation ), is about 47 light-years from the sun distant multiple star system in the constellation Ursa Major . The main star of the system Iota Ursae Majoris, ι UMa Aa, belongs to the spectral class A7 and has an apparent magnitude of 3.1 mag.
The proper name Talitha (spelling according to IAU , without addition) for the main star (ι UMa Aa) refers to the historical proper name Talitha Borealis ; the Arabic Talitha means “third (leap of the gazelle)”, the Latin borealis “north”. Talitha Australis (from Latin australis "south") is the corresponding name for the neighboring star system Kappa Ursae Majoris, whose main star κ UMa A has the proper name Alkaphrah .
Others
The occasional name Dnoces for this star is of modern origin and goes back to a joke by the Apollo astronaut Virgil "Gus" Grissom , who used the names of the Apollo 1 team as " Navi " (for Virgil Ivan Grissom), "Dnoces" (for Edward H. White the second ) and " Regor " (for Roger Chaffee) on a list of navigational stars.
On the night of July 18-19, 2020 (9:30 p.m. UTC ), the conjunction with comet C / 2020 F3 (NEOWISE ) occurred , with the distance between Talitha (Borealis) and the comet only being seven arc minutes .
