The competition was held for the first time in 2005. The next event was planned for August 10, 2007 between the champions Saipa Tehran and the cup winner Sepahan Isfahan , but it was canceled. In the second attempt, a game between the champions Persepolis Tehran and the cup winner Esteghlal Tehran should take place in 2008 , which was canceled again.
In 2016, Mehdi Taj took over the leadership of the Iranian Football Association and reactivated the competition.
