Irene Pepinghege

Irene Pepinghege , nee Irene Rozema , (born August 11, 1941 in Zaandam , Netherlands ) is a former German canoeist .

As a talented young paddler, she moved from Holland to Bochum because of better training conditions , and after her marriage to Josef Pepinghege in 1966, she received German citizenship, so that from 1968 she was also eligible to compete for the German Olympic team. Irene Pepinghege was multiple German champion and three-time Olympic participant. At the Olympic Games in 1968 she was a substitute woman. In 1972 in Munich she finished fourth in a single kayak , and in 1976 she took eighth place in a single kayak. In addition to her career in competitive sports, she was fully employed. Irene Pepinghege has been training children and young people on a daily basis on a voluntary basis since 1994. She is currently working as a racing manager and trainer for the Mülheim canoeing club.

• Silver at the world championship in four-person kayaks in 1966 with Sigrid Kummer , Renate Breuer and Roswitha Esser
• Silver at the world championship in the four-person kayak in 1971 with Roswitha Esser, Renate Breuer and Heiderose Wallbaum
• Bronze at the European Championship in 1965 in a four-person kayak with Erika Felten , Roswitha Esser and Renate Breuer
• German champion in single kayaks over 500 m in 1962, 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976
• German champion in two-man kayaks in 1965 with Roswitha Esser, 1970 with Roswitha Spohr and 1973, 1974 and 1975 with Barbara Lewe-Pohlmann
• German champion in the four- person kayak in 1967 with Doris Grebski , Heidi Honscha and Irmgard Honscha as well as in 1974 and 1975 with Barbara Lewe-Pohlmann, Morta and Birgit Mairich
