Irene Piotrowski

Irene Piotrowski ( Irene Maria Piotrowski, maiden name Macijauskaitė; born July 9, 1941 in Skaudvilė , Rajongemeinde Tauragė ) is a former Canadian sprinter of Lithuanian origin.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, she reached the semi-finals over 100 m and was eliminated over 200 m in the preliminary run.

In 1966 she won silver over 100 yards and bronze over 220 yards at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, and came fourth in the Canadian 4-by-110-yard relay. The following year, she won bronze over 100 m and silver in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg in 1967 and was fourth in the 200 m .

At the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968, she reached the semifinals again over 100 m . Over 200 m and in the 4 x 100 meter relay , she did not get past the first lap.

In 1970 she failed at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh over 100 m in the lead.

Four times she was Canadian champion over 100 m (1964, 1967-1969) and twice over 200 m (1967, 1969).

She was trained by her husband Heinz Piotrowski. In 1993 she was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame .
