Irene Worth , actually Harriet Elizabeth Abrams , (born June 23, 1916 in Omaha , Nebraska , † March 10, 2002 , New York City , New York ) was an American actress .

Live and act

Irene Worth studied at the University of California, Los Angeles and initially worked as a teacher. As Fenella in the play Escape Me Never , she made her stage debut on a tour in 1942. She later began a significant stage career in Great Britain. She played at both the Old Vic Theater and the Royal Shakespeare Company while returning guest appearances to the United States. Worth received the Tony Award in 1976 for Best Actress as Princess Kosmonopolis in Sweet Bird Youth and in 1991 for Best Supporting Actress in Lost in Yonkers .

She was only seen sporadically in the film, but her roles were chosen with some care. In 1959 she won a British Academy Film Award for Best Actress for her role in The Silent War . In the pirate film Pirate of the Seven Seas , she embodied a little scruple-showing Queen Elizabeth I. In 1983 she was proposed for her role in The Murderer Game for a Saturn Award for best supporting actress .

In the late 1970s, Worth returned to the United States, where he played theater and occasionally appeared in films. She also appeared in a number of television productions.
