Irina Wladimirowna Samochina ( Russian Ирина Владимировна Самохина , scientific transliteration Irina Vladimirovna Samochina ; * 1971 in Kursk ) is a Russian publisher. She is the co-founder and temporary president of the Association of Independent Publishers in Russia.

Life

Irina Samochina's father was the editor of Pravda , the central organ of the Communist Party, and founded the independent weekly newspaper "Krestjanin" (Farmer) in Rostov-on-Don in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union . Even as a student, Irina was one of the first female journalists at "Krestjanin".

Journalistic / publishing activity

After graduating in journalism in 1992 from the Rostov-on-Don State University, Irina Samochina worked in the advertising department of “Krestjanin”, which she took over in 1994. From October 1996 to March 1997 she completed a six-month internship in Germany, financed by the Heinz Kühn Foundation .

Today Irina Samochina is the general director of the publishing house “Krestyanin” in Rostov-on-Don. With credits from the Media Development Loan Fund MDLF , which is financed by the Hungarian-American financier George Soros , Bank Vontobel and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, she built the largest independent publishing house in southern Russia. Your publishing house produces forty sheets with a total circulation of 1 million in its own print shop, including the critical weekly newspaper "Krestjanin". In the past few years, three editors of the independent weekly newspaper have received journalism awards.

Irina Samochina is a co-founder of the Association of Independent Publishers in Russia, of which she was president in 2007.
