Iris Martin Gehl (* 2. December 1956 in Weimar as Iris Martin ) is (independent) a German politician and was from 2015 to 2019 and since July 14, 2020 a member of the Group of the Left of the Thuringian state parliament .

education and profession

Iris Martin-Gehl graduated from the Extended High School in Ruhla in 1975 . From 1976 to 1980 she studied law at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , then worked there for three years as a research assistant and received her doctorate in 1983 . From 1984 to 1986 she was a judge at the Leipzig-Mitte district court . From 1986 to 1991 she returned to Leipzig University as a research assistant. She has been working as a lawyer since 1991 and as a mediator in Weimar since 2004 . In addition, she was a member of the Thuringian Constitutional Court from 2000 to 2015 . From 2012 to 2014 she was a substitute professor at the HTWK Leipzig .

Political career

In the state election in Thuringia in 2014 , she ran at number 27 on the state list of the party Die Linke . After Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow resigned his state parliament mandate in the sense of a separation of office and mandate , she moved into the state parliament as a successor on April 1, 2015. In the state election in Thuringia in 2019 , she lost her mandate, but on July 14, 2020 she moved back to the state parliament for Heike Werner .
