history
Due to the opening of the Dundalk Ice Dome and the hosting of the Ice Hockey D World Championship there in April 2007, the Irish Ice Hockey Association IIHA decided to found a new, all-Irish ice hockey league. The first champions of the newly founded league were the Dundalk Bulls in 2008 , who defeated the Dublin Rams 6: 3 in the final. The league was expanded from five to six teams the following year. With the Junior Belfast Giants , the first Northern Irish team was accepted into the league. All teams except Belfast play their games in the Dundalk Ice Dome. The playoff final of the 2008/09 season between the Dublin Rams and the Latvian Hawks had to be postponed to a later date due to time problems.
