Irmgard Bohunovsky-Bärnthaler

Irmgard Bohunovsky-Bärnthaler (* as Irmgard Bärnthaler in 1939 in Tarvisio ) is an Austrian historian , author and gallery owner . Her work focuses on the tension between art and politics.

Youth and education

After completing a hotel training course, Irmgard Bärnthaler completed the external Matura in 1960 . She then studied history , German , philosophy , ethnology and art history at the University of Vienna . Professors Hugo Hantsch and Ludwig Jedlicka were among their teachers . In 1964 she received her doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna. Her dissertation on the history and organization of the Fatherland Front was published as a book by Europa Verlag in 1972 .

Professional activities

From 1966 to 1971 she headed the cultural department of the state capital Klagenfurt . She then worked as a correspondent in Brussels until 1975 , with an interruption in 1973 for a study visit to Greenland , where she dealt with the country's aspirations for autonomy.

In 1979 she founded the Carinthia gallery in Klagenfurt , which she ran until 2015.

Irmgard Bohunovsky-Bärnthaler organized a cultural-philosophical symposium in Warmbad Villach for several years .
