Ironing Board Sam

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ironing Board Sam (actually Sammie Moore ; * 1939 in Rock Hill , South Carolina ) is an American blues singer, keyboardist , songwriter and entertainer. In addition to his musical activities, Moore is an active inventor; one of his inventions is the button keyboard, which can sound like a guitar, an organ or a piano.

After his early marriage became known, Moore was forced to leave college. He made his way as a musician in Florida . In 1959 he moved to Memphis . In his appearances in selbstgeschneiderten costumes he put his keyboard on an ironing board ( Ironing Board ), hence the ironic stage name.

In the 1960s Moore tried unsuccessfully to get a record deal. He lived successively in Chicago , Waterloo ( Iowa ), Los Angeles , again in Memphis and finally in New Orleans , where he appeared as The Eighth Wonder of the World .

Ironing Board Sam developed bizarre concepts for self-promotion. In 1978 he planned to perform in a hot air balloon; the project failed because of the stormy weather. In 1979 he played at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in a full water tank. In 1982 he appeared as a human jukebox ( The Human Jukebox ), which only played music after inserting money. In the late 1980s he was accompanied by "Little George", a small toy monkey that he had modified to drum in sync with the drum machine.

Ironing Board Sam was on tour in Europe in the early 1990s. In 1995 his highly regarded debut album The Human Touch was released .

His album Ironing Boarding Sam and The Sticks (Music Maker - MMCD164; 2014) was created with the line-up of Simon Arcache (g), Raphael Evrard (b) and Michael Fowler (dr).
