Isa Khel is a village in Afghanistan . It is located in the Char Darah district .

history

On April 2, 2010 ( Good Friday ), three Bundeswehr soldiers died in the village as part of the ISAF operation ( Good Friday battle ):

  • Sergeant Major Nils Bruns (35)
  • Corporal Robert Hartert (25)
  • Corporal Martin Kadir Augustyniak (28).

Several soldiers were seriously wounded. A Dingo armored vehicle was destroyed. Hartert and Augustyniak, the seriously wounded Ralf Rönckendorf and Maik Mutschke and two other soldiers were awarded the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor for bravery on November 29, 2010 .

In the course of Operation Halmazag in November 2010, the village and the neighboring village of Quatliam were bombed by fighter planes, attacked by 500 soldiers and police officers and finally occupied. Fierce fighting broke out over the next four days as the Taliban attempted to retake the town.

The fighting as well as the promise of a quick asphalting of the main road and a connection to the power grid were part of the strategy implemented since 2010 ( FM 3-24 Counterinsurgency ), which was practiced when David Petraeus took over command in Afghanistan.

As a result of the massive presence of the Bundeswehr in the southern part of the Chahar Darreh troubled district , Isa Khel has been considered a largely safe place in the Kunduz province since 2011 . Nevertheless, rocket attacks on the military camp ( Provincial Reconstruction Team ) Kunduz continued in the second half of 2011 .

The doors of the Dingo combat vehicle that was destroyed during the Good Friday battle were salvaged in September 2011 by a combat unit of Task Force Kunduz III ( training and protection battalion ) and placed in the company's honorary grove in the Kunduz field camp in memory of the fallen .
