Marcel Bohnert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marcel Bohnert (* 1979 in Schwerin ) is a German officer ( lieutenant colonel i. G. ) and author.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1997, he joined the army of the German Armed Forces as a sergeant candidate . In 2002 he switched to the career of military service officers ; his current rank is a lieutenant colonel of the armored infantry troop .

Assignments abroad took him to task forces as a group leader in Kosovo (1999/2000) and as head of an infantry company in Afghanistan (2011/2012). In Kunduz , he and his men and women were responsible for security in the Chahar Darreh troubled district for six months .

From 2004 to 2008 he studied pedagogy at the Helmut Schmidt University of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg and psychology at the Central Connecticut State University in the USA. He then became head of a student department group and completed general staff training (LGAN) at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. He is the author of numerous book and magazine articles, u. a. he publishes regularly in the yearbook Innereführung .

According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, his book Army on the Move , published in 2014, is the “most important soldier self-confession of the past decades”. The publication was discussed controversially in the professional world, as some authors speak out against the principles of inner guidance . Even before the appearance of the Army on the Move, Bohnert himself took the view, contrary to the conception, that being a soldier was a job sui generis . In more recent publications he also emphasizes fighting as a core mission and unique selling point of the armed forces.

In 2017 he caused a sensation in the developing crisis of the Bundeswehr with an article in the name of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung because he criticized the lack of public statements by the generals. Bohnert was "the first soldier in years to speak out in public with this clarity."

He is currently head of the “New Media” department at the Federal Office for Personnel Management in the Bundeswehr. He was involved in a highly controversial guerrilla marketing campaign by the Bundeswehr at the re: publica digital conference and was the project manager for a web series about the KSK .
