Isaac Ascher Francolm
Isaac Ascher Francolm (born December 15, 1788 in Breslau ; died July 1, 1849 there ) was a Jewish preacher and religious teacher who had worked in the Königsberg community in Prussia since 1820 . He modernized the worship service and introduced the Bat-Mitzvah in Germany . Opponents brought the matter to the authorities, which in future forbade him not only to hold a bat mitzvah, but also to introduce innovations in general, in particular preaching in the national language.
When his contract expired (1826) he refused an extension and instead became a principal of the Royal Wilhelmsschule, a Jewish institution in Wroclaw, where he remained in office until 1847.
Francolm published a lot: religious and historical writings (including the most famous work: The Jews and the Crusaders in England under Richard the Lionheart ), literary material, books on mathematics and pedagogy.
