Isaac Löw Königswarter (born September 5, 1818 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 30, 1877 there ) was a German banker and patron .

Origin and family

Königswarter was born as the son of the banker Marcus Jonas Königswarter (1770–1850) and his wife Jeanette, b. Herschheimer born. Isaac was married to Elisabeth Lieben (1827–1877) from Prague. She was related to him because Isaac's grandfather Jonas Hirsch Königswarter was Elisabeth Lieben's maternal great-grandfather.

Foundation of the Israelite Hospital

In 1872 Königswarter donated 200,000 guilders to the Frankfurt Israelite community for the construction of a modern Jewish hospital. The construction of this facility began in 1873, and in 1875 it was opened as Königswarter Hospital in Grünen Weg 26. In 1879 the Green Way was renamed Königswarter Straße in honor of the founder. In 1914 the hospital was enlarged and moved to Gagernstrasse 16. Today (2013) the Rotes Kreuz Clinic of the Frankfurter Rotkreuz-Hospitals eV is located on the premises in Königswarter Straße
