Character history

Emergence

In 1939 it was announced that a new series of comics was to be started with Flash Comics , for which the publisher Max Gaines wanted characters. Gardner Fox was inspired by a bird to create the new hero Hawkman :

“I faced the problem of filling a new title that Gaines wanted to start. As I sat by the window and tried to think of something new, I noticed a bird gathering twigs for a nest. The bird kept flying down, taking a twig in its beak, and then flying away. I thought 'wouldn't it be great if the bird were a fighter for law and order and the branch a crook?' "

Fictional character biography

During the 15th Dynasty in Ancient Egypt , Prince Khufu and his beloved Chay-Ara discovered an alien spaceship from the planet Thanagar that had Nth metal on it, with which the two had contact. Murdered by the magician Hath-Set, a recurring sequence of birth and death set in, in which the couple kept getting together.

In the Wild West Khufu was the gunman Nighthawk , his girlfriend was Cinnamon , middle of the 20th century, they found as the archaeologist Carter Hall and as Sheira Saunders to tie the knot , taking as Hawkgirl appeared on the scene. Both became members in turn of the JSA, the All-Star Squadron and the JLA.

During Zero Hour , Hawkman (Carter Hall) merged with the Thanagarian policeman Qatar Hol , and Sheira died. She was reborn as her own great niece Kendra Saunders , but now had no memories of her previous life, which is why she no longer recognized Hawkman as her soul mate. Both live in St. Roch , Louisiana .
