Isaac van Ostade
Isaac van Ostade (* 1621 in Haarlem ; † October 1649 ) was a Dutch painter .
Isaac van Ostade, brother and student of Adriaen van Ostade , who influenced his first works. Despite his short life, he left about 100 paintings that deal with motifs similar to those of his brother, with which they are often confused. They show battles and rural scenes. After 1640 his pictures show rural life on the streets and in tavern scenes. The figures are now more and more the focus of his paintings.
The majority of the pictures are in private English ownership. The Berlin museum owns the works Halt in front of the village inn , a Dutch farmhouse parlor and a portrait of a farmer , the Musée du Louvre in Paris has a stop in front of an inn and two Dutch canal views in winter, and the Munich Pinakothek has six pictures, including two winter landscapes with ice-skaters and a village fair.
