Cornelis Dusart
Cornelis Dusart (born April 24, 1660 in Haarlem ; † October 1, 1704 there ) was a Dutch painter and etcher .
Life
Cornelis Dusart was born on April 24, 1660 in Haarlem. He joined the local Guild of St. Luke in 1679 and died on October 1, 1704, also in Haarlem. He was educated after Adriaen van Ostade and became one of his best imitators. In some of his pictures, which depict church feasts, tavern scenes and peasant amusements, he can easily be mistaken for the master, but generally remains in the clarity of the coloring, the liveliness of the presentation and the delicacy of the individualization, where he easily falls into caricature, back behind him. His works figure more often under those of Ostade; Even the peasants named by his name in front of the tavern in the Belvedere in Vienna, one of Dusart's most beautiful pictures, went under Ostade's name for a long time. Masterpieces by Dusart are in particular in the museums in Amsterdam (fish market), Dresden and Saint Petersburg. His etchings are also entirely in Ostade's taste .
